Valtteri Bottas has expressed that he feels ‘relatively confident’ about his continued presence in Formula 1 while facing the nerves created by rumors linking Colton Herta with his position at Cadillac Racing.
Although Cadillac has confirmed the renewal of Sergio Pérez’s contract until 2029, Bottas’s situation for 2027 remains uncertain, following a 2026 season in which he has been consistently outperformed by his championship teammate. In his qualifying races, Pérez has won 15 times compared to Bottas’s 9.
Rumors about Herta have been growing, especially now that the American driver is preparing to obtain his super license. ‘I don’t really know what to say. The situation is what it is, there are rumors. We will know soon,’ Bottas stated, hinting at his discontent with the current instability.
Despite having a ‘multiple years’ contract, it is specified that the second year is optional, creating uncertainty about his immediate future. Referring to Herta, Bottas expressed that he remains confident about his continuity, stating that what is written on paper gives him confidence.
‘It was clear to me who was on the team for next year. Clearly Checo has made an extension, but I have not yet.’ Bottas added that it is likely that the final decisions will rest with the brand’s management in the United States.
Currently, Cadillac is at the bottom of the championship without having scored points in 18 races. Bottas, a veteran with 10 wins in F1, must manage the evolution of the car and hopes that, in the near future, they will have a competitive vehicle to fight on equal terms.
The Finnish driver concluded that he is waiting for the moment when he has a better car in his hands. ‘I am here to develop, to work on the future. At times, we simply have to bring the car to the finish line,’ he added.
