Austrian driver Lucas Auer will be competing in the 2014 FIA Formula 3 European Championship with the kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport team. This week already, the 19-year-old Tyrolean will be testing with the outfit from Berlin.
“I am looking forward to the co-operation with my new team,” Lucas Auer says. “Being back in a Formula 3 car some three weeks after the Macau Grand Prix is nice. The test ban of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship comes into force on December 21. After that, possibilities up to the start of the season are strictly limited.”
After a strong 2012 season in the German Formula 3 in which he became runner-up in the drivers’ standings, Lucas Auer raced at European level for the first time this year. With the Italian Prema Powerteam, he scored one victory plus two second and six third places. Thus, Auer ended up fourth in the championship. Now, he switches to German team, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport that saw its driver Felix Rosenqvist finish this season as runner-up in the European Championship. “Peter Mücke’s team has a long and successful history in Formula 3,” Auer says. “I am certain that I will be one of the front-runners again with the Mücke team next year. I would like to thank the Prema team for the good co-operation in the season that has now come to an end. Certainly, they don’t do such a good espresso at Mücke’s, but as I don’t drink coffee anyway, that doesn’t play a role for me.”
Team principal, Peter Mücke, is convinced about the driving skills of his new signing. “We already watched Lucas in the ATS Formula 3 Cup and also kept a close eye on his development this year. Signing him for next year was our goal and I am happy that we have achieved this. I am sure that he will make his way and I am looking forward to a successful season together with him.” For Mücke, Auer is not the first Austrian driver he will be working with: “We already had success with Christian Klien in Formula 3 and Martin Ragginger is another Austrian who raced with us,” Mücke says. “We may not speak Tyrolean, but perhaps Lucas will be able to speak our dialect from Berlin at the end of the year…”
The 2014 FIA Formula 3 European Championship season gets underway at Silverstone in the UK on 19 and 20 April, followed by ten race weekends in Germany, France, Hungary, Russia, Austria and Italy. Every meeting includes three races.
