Wife of Adrian Newey – Amanda – has revealed the extent of injuries suffered by her husband around the summer break of 2021 F1 season.

Post the summer break, Red Bull consultant Dr. Helmut Marko revealed about an injury to Newey due to a cycling incident which kept him away from factory and trackside work. What happened to him was kept in dark with the family wanting to keep it private then.

He rejoined the Red Bull team for trackside work towards the end of the year, but both Marko and Christian Horner noted that he was not 100 percent still. With the 2021 season done, his wife Amanda has finally revealed what the injuries were suffered by Newey.

On his birthday today, Amanda wanted to give a shoutout to her husband whom she almost lost in August when the incident happened. She noted that he suffered multiple skull fractures in the accident and despite that, his whole focus was on his work.

Barely 10 days since his operation, Newey was part of the virtual pit wall during the Dutch GP. “He’s not on social media,” wrote Amanda. “He’s very wise! However, after the year we’ve had, I’m giving him a public shoutout. August, I came close to losing the love of my life after his cycling accident.

“Multiple skull fractures – to then sitting on a virtual pit wall of the Dutch Grand within ten days of his craniotomy displays his strength and drive. His recovery has been nothing short of miraculous. So this birthday feels extra special. Happy Birthday, Adrian.”
