Alpine has announced the departure of two senior figures, while creating three roles to replace them after a bad start to F1 2024 season.
After a bad start to its 2024 F1 campaign, reports noted of Matt Harman and Dirk de Beer leaving Alpine from their roles of Technical Director and Head of Aerodynamics. Some suggested of them applying for resignation much earlier in the year.
There was no chatter then but Alpine has since confirmed the departure of Harman and de Beer, while noting of other changes at the helm. They have created three different Technical Director roles for Performance, Aerodynamics and Engineering.
They will all report to team boss Bruno Famin. The engineering side will be headed by Jeo Burnell, while David Wheater has been appointed as Aerodynamics head. Ciaron Pilbeam, meanwhile, remains Performance head, while Eric Meignan remains as Power Unit head.
Alpine has also confirmed the start of work for Chief Operating Officers John Woods at Enstone and Audrey Vastroux at Viry. “We have decided to make these organisational changes as we can clearly see that we are not where we want nor need to be in terms of performance level and it is time to take another step in terms of organisation and people,” said Famin.
“The new three-pillared structure with three Technical Directors, each specialising in different areas, will bring better work and collaboration across our technical areas and contribute to delivering performance from the factories to the race track.
“I trust fully in the abilities of Joe, David and Ciaron to work closely together in bringing the team the performance and improvements that it needs. Finally, I would like to thank Matt and Dirk for their efforts over the last couple of years at the team and wish them the very best in the next chapter of their careers.”
