Fernando Alonso wished he would have worked with Adrian Newey, as he states that he will get to drive Aston Martin Valkyrie.
Even with this long career in F1, Alonso never got the chance to work with Newey, who has been the mainstay of Red Bull for years now. The Brit hasn’t left the team for years after joining them, with the Spaniard never getting a chance to drive for the team.
They did come close to working together at times, but it never worked out and it doesn’t seem like they will work anytime in the future either. Alonso, though, will have a chance to drive Newey’s brain when he will test the Aston Martin Valkyrie in future.
Before Aston Martin moved to be its own F1 team, they were partners of Red Bull and Newey aided in the building of Valkyrie. “I read something few months ago [that Newey wanted to work with me],” said Alonso. “He’s a legend of the sport. We’ve been very close a few times to work together and we spoke about this.
“I remember when he published the book a few years ago, in Spain I had the privilege to do the first page. And for me, just an incredible person that I was so lucky to work in the same environment as him, even if we never work together.
“I’m happy that I’m living and driving in this time that Adrian Newey is building Formula 1 cars. I wish one day I was working with him. I will drive the Aston Martin Valkyrie at home and maybe I’ll feel something and that will make me happy,” summed up Alonso.
