Alex Marquez laments a ‘stupid’ mistake that cost him the podium at the British GP

Alex Marquez, rider of Gresini Racing, has expressed his frustration after losing the chance to reach the podium in the British Grand Prix. Although he achieved a total of 19 points during the competition, Marquez felt disappointed with himself for a mistake he considered ‘stupid’ and ‘unacceptable’.

In a race marked by his rapid progress, the Spanish rider started from seventh position and made a notable overtaking, taking the third place shortly after surpassing Marco Bezzecchi. However, a mistake in braking at Abbey made him fall back to fifth place in a crucial phase of the race.

Despite this setback, Marquez was able to recover to fourth place, but he struggled to catch Bezzecchi, who showed a strong comeback in the final laps. Marquez finished the race with a time significantly higher than that of the other Ducati riders, but his discontent was evident. ‘When you lose a podium due to a stupid mistake… it’s quite unacceptable on my part because I overshot the braking,’ he commented after the race.

With Jorge Martin just seven-tenths behind Bezzecchi in third place, Marquez felt that he could have fought for that position if he had managed the critical moment better. ‘I believe that our options were for second place,’ he added. Despite his frustration, the rider acknowledged that he carried out a solid competition until the end.

On the other hand, Marquez pointed out that his starting position affected his chances of reaching the top of the podium, highlighting that the seventh place on the grid hurt him. As a result, the racer finished the weekend with two fourth places, making it clear that his team has the potential to fight for the top spots in future races.
