During the practice session of the GP of Austria, Alex Marquez experienced an unusual incident that interrupted the activity on the track. The Gresini Racing rider lost control of his bike after a small wheelie, resulting in a considerable fall.
The accident occurred a few minutes before the session’s conclusion, when riders begin looking for competitive times. His fall triggered a red flag, reducing the time for other riders to less than 12 minutes when the session was restarted.
Marquez, who was able to continue competing with his spare bike, detailed that a stuck brake was the cause of his accident. «Brakes are always on the edge here and, sometimes, they get a bit stuck. At that moment, the brakes were a bit stuck,» the Spanish rider explained.
Additionally, Marquez mentioned that the fall is not easy to handle. «It’s not a good accident because you don’t expect it and your body is not prepared for that. But I’m okay.».
Friday was not easy for Marquez, as he also experienced another incident in the morning when a part of his fairing came off, causing a track departure. However, the rider remained optimistic for the rest of the weekend. «It’s not how the weekend starts, but how it ends,» he declared.
