F1 has an update on ‘Project Pitlane’ which is the name given to the group effort of the seven teams to assist the UK Government.
Seven F1 teams – Mercedes, McLaren, Red Bull Racing, Racing Point, Haas, Renault and Williams – agreed to help the United Kingdom Government after their call for assistance with ventilators as the healthcare department fights the COVID-19 pandemic.
All of them are UK-based F1 teams and are progressing well to address the issue which has engulfed everyone at the world level. Ferrari, on the other hand, is helping the Italian Government via its parent as well subsidiary companies.
F1 noted that ‘Project Pitlane’ is advancing well as they are working together with the UK Government to manufacture and deliver respiratory devices to support their healthcare department. The teams are focusing on three main workstreams.
The release notes: “The workstreams vary in scope from reverse engineering existing medical devices, to support in scaling the production of existing ventilator designs as part of the VentilatorChallengeUK consortium, to the rapid design and prototype manufacture of a new device for certification and subsequent production.
“In each instance, Project Pitlane will pool the resources and capabilities of its member teams to greatest effect, focusing on the core skills of the F1 industry: rapid design, prototype manufacture, test and skilled assembly.
“F1’s unique ability to rapidly respond to engineering and technological challenges allows the group to add value to the wider engineering industry’s response. The focus of Project Pitlane will now be on coordinating and answering the clear challenges that have been
set.”
