ART Grand Prix’a Christian Lundgaard scored FIA Formula 3 (F3) Championship feature race pole at Monza after red flag ended the session early.
The tricky conditions at Monza continued on in the F3 qualifying as teams and drivers had to be lucky as well in their runs in the pole fight. There were several lead changes with multiple drivers going on top.
ART Grand Prix’s Christian Lundgaard headed the way at the halfway mark with Prema trio Marcus Armstrong, Robert Shwartzman and Jehan Daruvala behind in a close fight.
The second run had Daruvala improving from the front four with a purple in the second sector but a red flag ended the session with no re-start confirmed by the F3 organisers.
The session was stopped for safety reasons as the drivers slowed each other down for tow. It handed ART’s Lundgaard a pole for Monza’s feature race with a 1m38.834s lap, his second of the 2019 F3 season.
The Dane headed the Prema trio with Armstrong (1m38.969s), Shwartzman (1m39.037s) and Daruvala (1m39.055s) slotting in second, third and fourth as Sauber Junior Team by Charouz’s Lirim Zendelli (1m39.177s) was fifth.
Carlin’s Teppei Natori (1m39.303s) finished sixth with ART’s Max Fewtrell (1m39.307s) seventh from MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor (1m39.312s), Trident’s Niko Kari (1m39.343s) and Jenzer’s Giorgio Carrara (1m39.344s).
Teammate Yuki Tsunoda missed out in 11th with HWA Racelab’s Jake Hughes 12th ahead of MP Motorsport’s Liam Lawson, Trident’s Pedro Piquet and Hitech GP’s Juri Vips in Top 15.
