Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales stayed on top on Day 2 of the post-season MotoGP test at Valencia for the 2019 season despite a crash.
It was a similar start to the second day of the test as it was damp which forced majority to skip nearly two hours of the session which was eventually topped by Vinales – who also had set the pace on Day 1.
Vinales set a 1m30.757s lap time despite a crash in the middle of the day on his Yamaha with Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso (1m30.890s) only 0.133s apart as Honda’s Marc Marquez (1m40.911s) completed the Top 3.
In the lap count list, both Vinales and Dovizioso did 57 each with Marquez completing 53. Pramac Racing Ducati’s Jack Miller (1m30.939s) slotted in fourth with 66 laps ahead of new factory Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci (1m30.959s), who did 60 laps.
Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Franco Morbidelli (1m30.974s) did well in sixth with 58 laps while Suzuki’s Alex Rins (1m31.254s) in seventh from LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami (1m31.304s) – the former did 69 laps to the latter’s 70 which was highest by anybody.
Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi (1m31.371s) was ninth after completing 63 laps with Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro (1m31.400s) rounding the Top 10 with 55 laps to his name. Pramac Racing Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia (1m31.405s) was 11th with 49 laps.
Jorge Lorenzo (1m31.584s) had a better run abode the Honda in 12th with 46 laps as KTM’s Pol Espargaro (1m31.628s) was 13th with 47 laps ahead of Suzuki’s Joan Mir (1m31.714s) with 56 to his name.
Tito Rabat (1m31.940s) continued with his return abode the Avintia Racing Ducati with 59 laps in 15th from Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Fabio Quartararo (1m32.091s) with 63 laps and Aprilia’s Andrea Iannone (1m32.124s) with 32 laps.
The Italian did not have a great after two crashes with Yamaha’s test rider Jonas Folger (1m32.265s) in 18th also had a huge crash in Turn 10 after completing 47 laps. Even Ducati tester Michele Pirro (1m32.376s) had a crash as he ended up 19th.
The Italian completed just the 14 laps. Like Iannone, KTM’s Johann Zarco (1m32.509s) also had two crashes to be 20th with 50 laps as Avintia Racing Ducati’s Karel Abraham (1m32.906s) slotted in 21st with 52 laps.
KTM Tech 3 Racing’s Hafizh Syahrin (1m33.008s) finished 22nd with 43 laps ahead of Aprilia’s tester Bradley Smith (1m33.028s) who did 58 laps to end up in a KTM Tech 3 Racing sandwich with Miguel Oliveira (1m33.798s) in 24th with 46 laps.
