Mike David Ortmann claims his second victory in the ADAC Formel 4 for ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. ahead of championship leader Joey Mawson and second placed driver in both the standings for the race and season Mick Schumacher. Top rookie went to Nicklas Nielsen in 5th, with the Prema Powerteam pair of Juri Vips and Juan Manuel Correa joining him on the rookie podium.
In a race that heralded the appearance of the safety car a momentous 4 times, racing action was found in short but intense bursts, whilst restarts almost inevitably led to another safety car as frustrations ran high.
Off the line poleman Mick Schumacher kept his lead, and successfully did so for the majority of the race. His challenger for the win changed every so often: Joey Mawson fought with him from lights out making up two places, the two ex-teammates banging wheels as the Australian tried to pass, but later a defending Mawson ran wide as Kim Luis Schramm moved up to second. Schramm comfortably kept his position, until seemingly spinning unprovoked into the gravel, bringing out the third safety car.
The first safety car period was called thanks to Oliver Söderström ending up in the gravel and retiring, the second was a result of a beached Job van Uitert on the restart – though he wasn’t the only driver getting too hot headed in pursuit of points as Philip Hamprecht looked like he’d be stranded in another gravel trap before managing to get himself out – the third caused by Schramm’s spin, and the final safety car period came about when Moritz Müller-Crepon got his Van Amersfoort Racing machine stuck in the gravel. The gravel traps lining the track proved to cause many more drivers grief, namely Luca Engstler who picked up a puncture after an off track excursion.
Ortmann remained in second until a minute remained on the clock, when he lunged up the inside of Schumacher at turn 1 to take the lead in a perfectly executed pass. The young German held onto his position to cross the line victorious for the second time this weekend, with Mick Schumacher coming home second and Joey Mawson rounding out the podium positions. Top rookie went to Nielsen in 5th, with Vips and Correa second and third in the class respectively.
