Valentino Rossi is back in the highest step of the podium, the Italian has won at Jerez after 7 years without a victory in Jerez. Yamaha completes his first one-two of the season with Lorenzo finishing second. Márquez finished third.
It was time for the Spanish Grand Prix, the first in European soil, which had Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) on front row, alongside Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) and Marc Márquez. The Italian started very well and kept the lead in front of Lorenzo and Márquez. Behind them Pedrosa who started from seventh advanced to fourth, Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar) was fifth.
Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) overtook Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) in the first lap in order to catch the Yamaha’s who rapidly scape from Márquez. The Honda’s luckily catch the Yamaha’s when they exchange the positions during the second lap. Meanwhile, Márquez overtook Pedrosa.
Anyway, Valentino Rossi escaped from Lorenzo who was battling for second with Márquez, Pedrosa fourth couldn’t follow the pace of his rivals. Behind the fantastic four, Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) took sixth place after overtake Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team).
At half point of the race, the leader of the Independent rider’s championship, Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha MotoGP) took seventh place after an aggressive manoeuvre over Eugene Laverty.
Rossi had almost three seconds of distance over Lorenzo who with 10 laps remaining, started to cut the gap over his team mate. Anyway the Italian changed the break balance to maintain a gap of two seconds.
Álvaro Bautista (Aprilia Gresini) and Andrea Dovizioso were the retirements of today’s Grand Prix. The Spaniard due to a crash, as Dovizioso had to retire for mechanical issues.
But “The Doctor” was unbeatable today, a maiden victory this season for Rossi who bring him more confident for the upcoming races, after the crash at Austin some weeks ago.
Marc Márquez still leading the championship by 17 points over Lorenzo. Valentino Rossi continues on third place, 24 points behind the Catalan as Pedrosa is up to fourth, 42 points less than his team mate. Pol Espargaró continues in the lead of Independent Riders championship. In Teams championship, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP beats Repsol Honda Team by 1 point thanks to today’s one two.
