The French driver Sebastien Ogier has confirmed his intention to participate in the last four races of the World Rally Championship (WRC), with the aim of conquering a historic tenth title. His journey towards this success will begin with the Rally Paraguay at the end of this month.
This decision comes just days after a high-speed accident he suffered at the Rally Finland, where the reigning champion was leading the race before the incident. Both Ogier and his substitute co-driver, Julien Ingrassia, emerged without serious injuries and were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, to undergo their respective medical checks before being discharged.
After his retirement in Finland, Ogier has moved to fifth place in the overall standings, 62 points behind the leader, his teammate at Toyota, Elfyn Evans. Originally, Ogier had planned to participate in only ten races this year, but his desire to achieve a tenth world title has led him to confirm his full participation in the final events of the season.
The 42-year-old driver commented on social media: ‘After a strong performance, the Rally Finland did not end as we had hoped and our options in the championship are rather limited. Even so, we still have four races to go and with Vincent Landais, my regular co-driver, we will be there with the sole aim of winning them all.’
His regular co-driver Vincent Landais will accompany him in this phase of the competition, while Ingrassia, who had come out of retirement to fill the gap in Finland, will not return for the upcoming events.
His teammate, Sami Pajari, secured victory at the Rally Finland, going on to dominate the race after Ogier’s accident, while Oliver Solberg and Elfyn Evans completed the podium.
