Guenther Steiner, former team principal of Haas, has made his stance clear regarding the speculation linking Max Verstappen with a possible move to McLaren. In a recent interview on the podcast _The Red Flags_, Steiner firmly rejected the idea, which he considers unrealistic.
The rumors about Verstappen’s future have increased, especially after his frustrations with his current Red Bull car. McLaren has unexpectedly emerged as one of the potential destinations for the Dutch driver, but Steiner qualifies it as a lateral move.
“A move to McLaren would not represent a step forward for him,” he stated. “McLaren is going through tough times currently and does not offer a more competitive car than the one Verstappen currently has at Red Bull.” Additionally, he highlighted that the McLaren team, led by Zak Brown, has publicly expressed its support for its current driver lineup.
Steiner concluded that, for Verstappen’s best interests, it would be prudent for him to stay at Red Bull, where there is potential to regain the championship lead. Currently, the driver is in seventh place in the overall standings with 76 points, far from the championship leader, Kimi Antonelli.
