Juan Pablo Montoya has expressed his opinion on how Charles Leclerc’s recent victory at the British Grand Prix could make the competition for the Formula 1 title more exciting. Montoya believes that if Leclerc can maintain the same consistency as his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, the championship could experience a true revolution.
Leclerc achieved his first victory of the season, and also his first at Silverstone, after leading the race from the start and taking advantage of a safety car caused by Max Verstappen of Red Bull crashing in the gravel at Stowe.
The Monegasque driver crossed the finish line under safety car conditions, with George Russell of Mercedes in second place and Hamilton closing the podium in third place.
Prior to this victory, Leclerc had experienced a difficult start to the season. In an analysis during the F1 TV post-race show, Montoya commented on Leclerc’s transformation and how it is possible he has solved his issues. ‘After spending hours analyzing data, it’s possible that they have finally figured out how to solve their performance problems,’ he said.
With this victory, Leclerc now sits fourth in the championship with 108 points. The lead belongs to Kimi Antonelli with 179 points, followed by Russell with 154 points and Hamilton with 147 points.
