Max Verstappen has expressed his confidence that Red Bull Racing knows what they will need to keep him as a driver beyond 2026. Although his current contract extends until 2028, the future of the Dutch driver remains a topic of intense debate among fans and media.

With the new regulations for the 2027 and 2028 seasons approved, the world champion seems determined to extend his stay in Formula 1. Recently, reports emerged of “informal talks” with McLaren, but Verstappen has stated that he prefers not to fuel rumors: “I don’t mind and I don’t pay attention to it.” At the same time, his manager, Raymond Vermeulen, has reiterated his intention to remain loyal to Red Bull.

The driver is aware that, currently, his position in the championship —seventh— is not up to his standards, and he has pointed out that the team understands the needs that must be addressed. “Everyone at Red Bull knows what to do, but there’s no need to talk too much about it,” Verstappen has stated.

One of the crucial aspects will be the new upgrade package scheduled to debut at the Austrian Grand Prix, which the driver has labeled as vital for the team’s future. After qualifying, Verstappen has expressed moderate optimism, although he acknowledges that they still need to adjust some of the new parts.

The team’s executives, Laurent Mekies and Pierre Wache, have acknowledged that they are still learning about the new upgrade package, and although more work is expected, they admit it is a long road and that budget constraints will complicate the process.

Verstappen has also noted that he has experienced a good dose of bad luck this season. Scenarios like his failed qualifying in Australia and a power unit issue in Monaco have marked his year. In his usual tone, he added that if things do not improve, he will probably consider taking a reflective break in Tibet.
