The MotoGP category has implemented two significant rules immediately. From now on, front holeshot devices are banned, while the distance between riders on the grid will be increased starting from the next German Grand Prix.
Recently, during the Czech Grand Prix, the possibility of this ban was discussed after various tests conducted in the practices, with diverse opinions among the riders. Originally, it was intended to ban both front and rear holeshot devices from 2027, but the decision has been brought forward for front devices.
Thus, only rear holeshot devices will be allowed during the rest of the season starting from the Dutch Grand Prix. The concern regarding front holeshot devices comes from their requirement for intense braking to disconnect them when approaching the first corner, as well as their high cost without adding extra value to the races.
Additionally, the modification of the grid design means that the distance between riders will increase from three to four meters, meaning each row will be separated by twelve meters instead of nine. This measure aims to address recent safety concerns during the start moments.
Finally, the Grand Prix Commission has confirmed a limitation of six riders per manufacturer starting from 2028, meaning a manufacturer can supply one factory team and two customer teams. This rule is already being applied, with Ducati supplying three teams.
