Cleetus McFarland, known as Garrett Mitchell, has experienced a moment of doubt but maintains his dream of participating in the prestigious Daytona 500 race. Recently, he shared his experience on the Door Bumper Clear podcast, where he reflected on his journey in the world of Stock Car.
His adventure began when he contacted Greg Biffle to explore the possibility of competing in the Daytona 500. McFarland confessed that the demands of the ARCA championship made him realize that the level difference was much greater than he thought. “When I started racing in ARCA, I realized I had no intentions of competing in the Cup or the Daytona 500 in the near future,” he explained.
Despite the criticism received for the proposal from some commentators, McFarland emphasizes the importance of time on the track and learning from mistakes, which he considers essential for improvement. His recent partnership with Richard Childress Racing has renewed his hopes and his love for motorsport.
“Now I look toward the end goal, which is to reach the Daytona 500, but I am enjoying it so much that I think I will end up doing much more than that,” he said, adding that he wants to enjoy the process.
In his latest competition, McFarland participated in the NOAPS race at Nashville Superspeedway, where he finished in 35th position after a spin on the last lap of the first stage with a pit penalty. This weekend, he will prepare to compete in the ARCA and Truck series races at Michigan International Speedway.
