The MotoGP rider, Jorge Martin, has decided to temporarily suspend his sponsorship agreement with Red Bull. This decision comes just before the announcement of Monster Energy as the new main sponsor of the Aprilia team.

Aprilia is expected to officially announce its agreement with Monster on Thursday, thus confirming information that has been circulating. Although the exact details of the contract have not been revealed, it is expected to extend beyond the current season, at least until the end of 2028.

Negotiations between the two parties had been underway for some time, initially focused on the 2027 season. However, the good results obtained by Aprilia at the beginning of this year have accelerated the formalization of this agreement.

The collaboration between Aprilia and Monster will begin this weekend during the Italian Grand Prix, where the factory motorcycles will display the recognizable Monster logo. For this brand, one of the attractions of Aprilia is the figure of Marco Bezzecchi, a rider who has been linked to Monster for years.

Impact on Jorge Martin

However, Martin is the only one who will not benefit from the arrival of Monster. Currently, he is an athlete for Red Bull, which has sponsored him since his victory in the Rookies Cup in 2014. As a result of the new situation, Martin will no longer wear the Red Bull brand on his helmet and cap, now bearing the image of Aprilia.

Although he will not display the Monster logo on his personal equipment, he will be required to show it on his competition outfit and motorcycle, as these advertising spaces belong to the Noale team.

Martin acknowledges that the incorporation of a new main sponsor is a significant financial advantage for the team and for Aprilia, which could improve their competitive performance. Nevertheless, he may not seek a renegotiation with Monster for a sponsorship change during the current season.

This situation is similar to what Marc Marquez, one of the most iconic Red Bull riders, experienced when he joined Ducati last year. Like Martin, Marquez suspended his agreement with the Austrian company but has maintained his loyalty during the time spent with the Bologna team, despite Monster being one of his main sponsors.

Martin recently signed a two-year contract with Yamaha Factory Racing for the 2027 and 2028 seasons, and currently, Monster is the main sponsor of the team based in Iwata. However, the validity of this agreement ends at the end of the year, leaving unclear whether Monster will continue collaborating with Yamaha, which would allow Martin to resume his link with Red Bull.
