Red Bull Racing has admitted to a mistake in not resolving in time a steering issue that affected Max Verstappen‘s car. This matter caused difficulties in the driver’s performance during the last Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami.
Although Verstappen finished in fifth place, the result does not fully reflect the team’s potential. An incident on the first lap, along with an early pit stop, limited his race. However, the car’s speed showed significant improvements compared to the previous race in Japan.
The technical advancements implemented, including changes to the design of the wings and the floor, proved effective. Additionally, Verstappen confirmed that the team had detected and resolved an issue in the steering system that he had noticed since the tests in Barcelona.
Red Bull’s technical director, Pierre Wache, explained that identifying the error was a complex process, which required time to confirm its nature. “We first had to check if there was a problem and then identify its origin, which can be laborious,” Wache commented after the race.
Ultimately, Red Bull has replaced the entire steering system and some associated components, significantly improving the driving feel during the practice sessions at Silverstone.
Wache expressed his regret for not having solved the problem sooner, admitting that some components took time to arrive. Nevertheless, he highlighted the quality of the work performed by his team.
Regarding the innovative solution to the steering system, Red Bull also presented its own version of the Macarena wing, claiming it is not a copy of Ferrari’s design. This design has been developed over months, aiming to comply with FIA regulations.
With these improvements, Red Bull aims to maintain its performance and continue vying for victories in upcoming races. The next challenge will be to ensure that the advancements bear fruit in the upcoming grands prix.
