Oscar Piastri, McLaren driver, has expressed his opinion on the recent modifications to the Formula 1 regulations, considering them a positive step but with the need for further adjustments in the future.
These new regulations will come into effect during the upcoming Miami Grand Prix. Among the highlighted changes is the increase in rapid charging power of hybrid systems, going from 250 kW to 350 kW, as well as the reduction of the maximum energy recovery limit from 8 MJ to 7 MJ to avoid excessive energy collection. A system for detecting low power levels will also be introduced to ensure a minimum acceleration in case a vehicle stalls at the race start.
In an interview on the High Performance podcast, Piastri commented that it is difficult to determine if these modifications will be sufficient and acknowledged that there is still a need to delve deeper into some of the changes introduced. “There are rules that need more analysis to understand how they will affect us,” he stated.
What has impressed the Australian most is the synergy created between drivers, teams, F1, and FIA to implement these changes quickly. “The collaboration has been refreshing and encouraging, especially for the more veteran drivers,” he said. However, Piastri warned that further adjustments will likely be necessary in the future, as well as uncertainty about their ease of implementation.
The Miami Grand Prix will take place from May 1 to 3, and fans are eager to see how these new regulations will influence the competition.
