Formula E has taken a significant step forward in the world of motorsport with the official presentation of its new Gen4 vehicle. The event, held at the Paul Ricard Circuit, marks the beginning of a new era in electric racing, with which they expect to make the leap in the 2026/27 season.

With a top speed of 208 mph and a power of 804 hp during qualifying mode or Attack Mode, the Gen4 is the fastest vehicle in the competition so far, with an approximate 70% increase in power compared to its predecessor, the Gen3.

Notable innovations and improvements

In addition to its speed, the new version of the vehicle is the first to incorporate permanent all-wheel drive and is fully recyclable. Additionally, a new tire supplier will be introduced, with Bridgestone replacing Hankook for this generation.

The first competitions with the Gen4 will begin at the end of this year, while the current season, which uses the Gen3 Evo, will conclude in London on August 15 and 16. The CEO of Formula E, Jeff Dodds, has expressed his exciting satisfaction with the progress represented by this vehicle, highlighting that “Gen4 is not just a car, it is a statement of intent.”

Participation of manufacturers

All participating manufacturers, including Porsche, Jaguar, and Stellantis, were present at the event, although only the first two took to the track, due to the adjustment of the development calendar of other brands. The new generation also modifies its weight, increasing from 863 kg to 950 kg, and includes a wider cockpit to accommodate new assisted steering needs.

The FIA president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, added that the Gen4 symbolizes a significant advancement for electric racing, establishing a new global standard in performance and sustainability.

With this new phase, Formula E hopes to redefine its place within the automotive landscape and continue attracting a large number of automotive industries towards a more sustainable future.
