The Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc, made a fun reference to the world of video games after an intense on-track battle during the Australian GP. In a radio conversation with his team, Leclerc compared the racing experience to the popular video game ‘Mario Kart’, a remark that arose while competing against George Russell.
During the race, Leclerc and Russell exchanged positions several times, a dynamic that led the Monegasque to state: “This is like the mushroom in ‘Mario Kart'”. This comparison highlights the impact of recent changes in racing mechanics, including new overtaking and boosting modes.
The fun was not limited to Leclerc. Other drivers also shared their impressions on the competition. Sergio Pérez from Cadillac said with a smile: “Let’s see what happens in this video game race”. Meanwhile, Oliver Bearman from Haas commented that the feeling was similar to playing a video game, specifying that it seemed he was in F1 and the rest were in F2.
Bearman added that energy management is a complex aspect of this new era of competition. “There are a lot of things to consider, which is complicated. But finishing in seventh place makes me feel satisfied, even though the car hasn’t been the most fun to drive this weekend”, he concluded.
