William Byron, driver for Hendrick Motorsports, has expressed that he is not concerned about his current position in the standings of the NASCAR Cup Series, after three races in the season. With a half point in thirteenth position, Byron believes it is still too early to make definitive assessments about the potential of this season.

In a recent press conference, Byron commented that he and his teammate Christopher Bell discussed how the current season seems to last longer, as they adapt to the dynamics of the races. “We feel we need a few races to get into the rhythm of the season,” Byron said, adding that the tracks that really matter for contending for the title begin further down the line.

The season has started with a combination of superspeedways and varied circuits, and Byron assures that the competition really begins with the races between the short and medium tracks on the calendar. He acknowledges wanting to be among the top five at this stage of the competition, while admitting that he has lost valuable points in recent weeks.

Despite setbacks, such as accidents that cost him points in the Atlanta race, Byron is optimistic. “We have scored around 25-26 points on average and hope to reach between 35 and 40 on average. We are not where we would like to be, but we intend to turn it around,” he added.

Furthermore, his competition has intensified with the impressive start of Tyler Reddick, who has accumulated three consecutive victories. Byron acknowledges that this provides a huge advantage in the standings, but he is focused on his own performance and is confident that things will improve throughout the season.

“There is a lot of room over the next 20-22 weeks. Every race matters, but we are determined to find our way to our best version,” Byron concluded.
