The second day of Barcelona Shakedown saw only two teams venture out in a rain-hampered day, with Ferrari getting its first taste of F1 2026.

After seven teams that ran on Day 1, only two teams opted to run on Day 2 of Barcelona Shakedown to continue the F1 2026 running. The likes of Audi, Cadillac, Visa Cash App RB, Alpine and Mercedes opted out due to rain, while Haas already had plans to skip the second day.

Only Red Bull continued on running on Day 2, with Max Verstappen getting his first outing of F1 2026. The Dutchman had a small moment early on, but managed to continue until the end of the morning session, with Isack Hadjar taking over in the afternoon.

But the Frenchman had a crash at Turn 14 to end the day – the driver was unscathed. Unofficial videos showed a broken rear wing. Red Bull confirmed the incident and shared a lap count of 78 across the two drivers. The unofficial times showed Verstappen setting a 1m19.578s lap, while Hadjar had 1m31.891s against his name.

Joining the testing list was Ferrari on Day 2, where Charles Leclerc ran the morning session, with Lewis Hamilton having a go in the afternoon. Although the conditions were deemed bad for many, it was crucial for the Italian outfit to get some running in the wet after troubles with the last generation of cars.

The official lap count for Ferrari pair was above 121 laps across the two drivers, with Leclerc completing 64 and Hamilton doing 57. The Monegasque set a time of 1m20.844s, with the Brit setting a lap of 1m32.827s in their first proper outing post the Fiorano demonstration run.

Ferrari detailed on the run plan with Leclerc completing 19 laps on C2 tyre, 15 on full wets and 20 on intermediate. On the other side, Hamilton did 29 laps on intermediates and 28 on full wets.

Teams say –

Leclerc: “It was good to be back in the car and to start learning a completely new package. Today was about system checks and understanding how everything works, rather than performance, especially with the mixed conditions. We completed our programme and everything behaved as expected, which is a positive start and a solid base to build on.”

Hamilton: “It was an intense but productive first day, especially with the mixed weather conditions. We managed to get good mileage on the car and gather a lot of useful information, which is important with such a big regulation change. There were no major issues and that gives us a solid foundation to keep learning and building over the next days.”

Matteo Togninalli: “Considering the conditions, it was a productive day for us. Despite the rain, we completed solid mileage and, most importantly, had no major reliability issues, which is the key priority with a new car and power unit. It’s still very early to talk about performance: the focus now is on understanding the car, learning its behaviour and building knowledge step by step over the coming days focusing on ourselves.”
