Lando Norris relays the tracks he has been good in F1 2025 thus far, when compared to time before and where he still needs to do better.
After Oscar Piastri improved his show at circuits where he didn’t last year, McLaren teammate Norris has had to up his game as well at various circuits where he is already good and tracks where he needed to step up. The Brit’s game was thrown off due to updates which didn’t suit him.
The things McLaren changed from last year to this year didn’t suit Norris as much as it did Piastri. The Australian improved show added to the fray, requiring the Brit to take one step further. When asked about where he saw improvements, the 2025 title contender was quite descriptive about it.
“That’s tricky, yeah, I think there’s been a mix of ones I just feel a bit better at, just because it does generally align with the tracks I’ve always been better at,” said Norris to media. “So if you look back to Red Bull Ring and things ‘like that, the tracks I’ve just always enjoyed, I’ve always clicked with. I think a lot of the time it does also align with feeling, and I think that’s why I’ve been quite vocal about my feelings, because the better I do feel in the car, the better I’m going to do.
“It’s quite just linear, they’re one-to-one, and part of my job is trying to prove that they’re not a good feeling and try and make that as good as when I’m feeling good, but that’s a trickier time. China, things like that, generally more front-limited tracks are ones that you rely more feeling from the steering. That’s where I’ve struggled a bit more this year, and those are the times I’ve struggled more.
“Tracks that at times I’ve done well in, like Monaco, I was shitting myself before Monaco. Massive rain, terrible last year. But I’ve turned it into one of my best performances this season. There’s been plenty of cases where I’ve expected worse and I’ve done better than an expectation, but the places where they’re normally front-limited, just leaving all the front tyres locked, require good steering feel, those are generally the places I struggle more,” summed up Norris.
