A biopic on former F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan is in works in Tamil-language, which is to showcase the journey of the first Indian to make it to the pinnacle.
After success of the F1 movie, the craze has reached Asian shores, especially in sub-continent. Renowned director Mahesh Narayan has decided to direct a movie based on the life of Karthikeyan, who is the first from India to make it in Formula 1 back in 2005 with Jordan.
The movie is to focus on his journey as a kid from Coimbatore, with the dream to make it big in motor racing – something which is not common in India. It will showcase his push to start racing despite the financial constraints, considering how expensive motor racing is till date.
It will cover his early days in India and also the Macau GP crash and redemption, followed by step-by-step journey to F1. His personal life will also be part of the story, to showcase the family support along with the support from his wife, who had no knowledge about racing.
India’s Blue Marble Films is undertaking the development work of the movie and it will be produced by Faraz Ahsan, Vivek Rangachari, and Pratik Maitra, with Amish Shah and Nilaanjan Reeta Datta serving as the associate producers. The screenplay will be looked at by Shalini Usha Devi.
The actors playing the respective roles, which includes Karthikeyan’s will be confirmed at a later stage. “Narain Karthikeyan’s journey isn’t just about racing. It’s about belief — in yourself, your country, and a dream no one else can see. That’s what drew me to this story,” said Narayan.
Meanwhile, Ahsan added: “India has some of the most dangerous roads in the world — just surviving traffic here takes skill. But what fascinated me was how someone like NK went from navigating those roads to racing at 365 km/h — a speed faster than a commercial aircraft at takeoff.”
And Karthikeyan – who last raced competitively in Asian Le Mans in 2021 – stated: “Motorsport gave me everything. This film gives that story to the world.” Further details about the movie and casting will come at a later stage.
