Alpine Racing has confirmed its deal with Mercedes for its power unit and gearbox use from the 2026 F1 season onward.
Having decided to stop its power unit programme under the new engine cycle from 2026 onward, Alpine-Renault has officially confirmed the customer route after signing a deal with Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains to take power unit elements.
Additionally, they have also signed a deal with Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix to take up gearbox elements as well. The new deal starts from 2026 F1 season onward and the first contract will run for five seasons, until the end of 2030.

This will keep Mercedes-powered cars to eight on the grid, with McLaren and Williams extending their respective deals as well. The decision from Renault has come under flak after protests at Viry. Despite talks to re-organise the base, their will be job losses.
With the involvement of French unions regarding safeguarding of jobs, it is unclear if they have given a green signal to Alpine to proceed with its deal with Mercedes. For now, there is an agreement in place and the team will lose its manufacturer status.
“BWT Alpine Formula One Team, Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains, and Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix have entered into Power Unit and Gearbox Agreements from the start of the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship,” said the press release.
“The multi-year agreement will see Mercedes-Benz supply BWT Alpine Formula One Team with Power Units for the duration of the new regulation era, from 2026 until at least 2030. Alongside the Power Unit, BWT Alpine Formula One Team will also be supplied with Mercedes gearboxes from the 2026 season. The team remains focused on performing in the strongest way possible in the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
