The GPDA has released a strongly worded statement and has brought light into discussion that F1 drivers want around transparency of the monetary fines.
The Grand Prix Drivers’ Association – headed by George Russell, Alexander Wurz and Anastasia Fowle – has released a strong-worded statement under the header ‘driver misconduct’ and has urged discussions with the FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
Mercedes’ Russell indicated about a letter between the races in Austin and Mexico, but it got delayed due to other commitments. But after setting-up an Instagram account after Brazil GP, they have finally released a long letter relating to current issues.
It stems from the latest trial of swearing during official FIA press conference, where Max Verstappen was handed community service in Singapore and Charles Leclerc was fined for his accidental swear in Mexico. The Dutchman even protested in Singapore.
He did not speak at length in the official press conference, but instead held a separate media session. Since then, the matter has been under discussion especially among the drivers, whether in-person or on their Whatsapp channel.
And now, they have released a letter where they want a long pending discussion with the FIA President. In fact, it has brought light upon the monetary fines that the F1 drivers have to pay, whether it is for swearing and or jewelry, etc.
The GPDA wants transparency from the FIA regarding the use of the fine money, which they think doesn’t set right with the image of the drivers and or the sport. They have cautioned the President even for his tone and language when talking to its member or about them in public.
