Pierre Gasly says Alpine has been transparent with him about the changes that has been happening with F1 team boss and power unit situation.
The changes at Renault/Alpine on the side of team principal and potential customer route for power unit didn’t come as a big surprise to Gasly as he states that the French team has been transparent to him about the things that is going behind the scenes.
He doesn’t have say in those things but he has been kept in the loop. Bruno Famin has moved out from team principal role to be focused at Viry, with Hitech GP founder Oliver Oakes taking over from summer break onward as the new boss.
“It’s quite transparent and we all know the situation,” said Gasly to media. “It’s not like I have a big say in any of these decisions. But obviously it’s stuff that we talk with each other and I obviously give my point of view. I’m obviously interested for the future of the team to know exactly what’s going on.
“So, it’s quite clear on my side obviously. Then it’s up to the top management to make this goal. It’s all very clear on all sides and I’m sure we’ll get answers in the coming weeks or months. I think the goals are clear as a team. There have been some changes and a lot of talks in the paddock, in the media, etc, but I don’t think it takes any focus away from the team.
“Still as I mentioned, I want to thank Bruno for his work and the transparency and honesty he’s had for the time we’ve had together. It doesn’t change the target for the team,” summed up Gasly, who is wary of the growing competition. The Frenchman has been surprised by the dip in performance after a good run.
“The last few weekends have been a little bit surprising,” he said. “We’ve been very competitive in Barcelona, quite competitive in Austria. Silverstone was a big struggle, even though I didn’t race there, just the pace didn’t look great. And Budapest we also struggled.
“I just want to really focus on getting a clean weekend ahead, get the best out of the package we have. And hopefully it’s going to be good for points, but you see recently Haas made a big step forward, AlphaTauri also made a big step. So it’s a tight battle, but hopefully we’ll be able to be in the points again,” summed up Gasly.
