Strakka Racing has been forced to turn its attentions to the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship after homologation issues surrounding the DOME-designed chassis meant the S103 LMP2 car might not have been able to compete in Brazil in the final round of the 2014 season.
A successful five-day test in Hungary last month where the car ran faultlessly, racking up over 3500km coupled with a final pre Brazil shakedown at Silverstone this week, confirmed the revised specification and updates led by Strakka have delivered a reliable and competitive car. Unfortunately, an issue with the DOME headrest mounting meant that the car might not have received FIA safety approval to race. Despite a huge push from the entire Strakka Racing team and its technical partners, it had no choice but to cancel the airfreight via Germany and refocus attention towards 2015.
“The season was a write-off with the issues we have faced,” says sportscar team manager Karl Patman, “We have seen the true performance in the car and know what it is capable of. Now we have to wait until 2015 to show everyone else.”
Strakka Racing would like to apologise to the FIA World Endurance Championship, its shareholders, technical partners and fans for not showing the car in action. “Despite all the setbacks this year, we remain committed to the FIA WEC. We are going to make sure 2015 makes up for the past 12 months,” adds Patman.
Strakka is now scheduling an intensive winter test programme in Europe ahead of next year’s championship, underlining the three year commitment it has made to the FIA WEC.
