Second win of the season for Vettel and Ferrari

Sebastian Vettel won the Bahrain Grand Prix ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. The Ferrari driver is now leading the Championship.

Bottas kept the pole at the start, while Vettel overtook Hamilton for P2 and Verstappen went up to P4 ahead of Ricciardo, Massa and Räikkönen. Bottas had a very slow pace and kept everyone from Vettel to Ricciardo behind him in less than a second within each other.

Vettel decided to try an undercut on Bottas and it ended up paying off when the Safety Car came out due to an accident between Sainz and Stroll which left both out of the race. Before that, Verstappen had to retire as well due to a brake failure. Hamilton lost position with Ricciardo even though he tried to slow him down at the pit lane entrance, for which he would be given a 5 second penalty later. Ricciardo had a very slow restart and lost position with Hamilton, Massa and Räikkönen.

Hamilton made his middle stint longer in order to try to catch Vettel at the end of the race with fresher tyres, but he was unable to get him. This was Vettel‘s second win of the season, thanks to which he breaks the tie with Hamilton for the Championship lead and has a 7 points advantage now. Bottas completed the podium after a disappointing race. Räikkönen, Ricciardo, Massa, Pérez, Grosjean, Hülkenberg and Ocon completed the top 10.
