The Swiss driver who was on group 1 of qualifying, made a poor lap that relegated him to the fourteenth position at the end of the qualifying.

Meanwhile in the second group Felix Rosenqvist (Mahindra Racing) made a perfect lap that allowed him to pass to the Super Pole along with Jean Eric Vergne (Techeetah). But even better was the lap-time of Sam Bird (DS Virgin) who would set the fastest lap of the session in group 4, getting access to the super pole along with Nick Heidfeld (Mahindra Racing) and Lucas Di Grassi (ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport).

In the super pole, everyone held the position but Bird who seemed to be the strongest to secure the pole position, made a mistake that drop him down to the second position giving the preferred position to his rival in the fight for third place In the driver’s championship, Felix Rosenqvist.
