Yesterday it was a summers day here at Spa – Francorchamps, today a very wet and grey autumn day. Ralf Aron (Scuderia Nordica) started in sixth position in race two of the Formula Renault 1.6 NEC Junior to move to the front of the field on lap three and never looked back.

The start of the race was behind the safety car as this was the first race this season on wet tyres. The only one out on slicks was Boris Kolff (Provily Racing) who had hoped the track would dry quicker. He put on a good race but the track stayed wet. His teammate Janneau Esmeijer was laying in first place after having started from third, when he and Ralf Aron touched in a racing accident, and Esmeijer unfortunately had to retire.

Another podium finish for Florian Janits and Max Defourny (both Lechner Racing school). They were followed in fourth place by Nico Otto of Captain Racing. The best result for the young German so far.

Ferdinand Habsburg and championship leader Anton de Pasquale (both Lechner Racing school) fought for fifth and sixth place, Habsburg becoming fifth. Oliver Söderström  (Scuderia Nordica) finished seventh, Cédric Piro of Pirosports in eight place.

No luck again for the drivers of the Stuart Racing team. Paul Sieljes, for the first time on pole, retired with mechanical problems, while Marcel Lenerz’ his engine problems were not over.

  1. Ralf Aron (Scuderia Nordica): “It was my first race on rain tyres, so my start was not good. But I soon was able to overtake the guys in front of me and fight for first. I got in contact with Esmeijer who went off so I had to concentrate to keep my car on the track. I had to defend my position a bit but could hold on to first place and happy to be on the podium. Thanks to the team for a great job.”

  1. Florian Janits (Lechner Racing School): “I was really looking forward to racing in the wet. I had to find the right driving style as this was only my second race in the rain. But twice on the podium is a good result for the weekend.”

  1. Max Defourny (Lechner Racing School): “It was my first time in the rain in a race car, so a bit tricky at the beginning. But my confidence grew so I was quite happy in the car and of course to be on the podium. Great to get some more championship points.”

Next races at Zandvoort on 17, 18 and 19 October.
