After Josef Newgarden’s victory at Gateway last week, Indycar arrives at Watkins Glen to compete for the penultimate race of the 2017 season.

The first driver to get on track was Max Chilton. In the first 5 minutes, almost half of the grid had already tested themselves on track to score a good laptime and so did the rest of the drivers after some minutes.

The session continued in a monotonous way and without incidents, only with small spins like the one that Alex Rossi or Hinchcliffe did only when 15 minutes of practice had past. In addition, the drivers had started doing laptimes of almost 1:25.000 and, by the middle of the session, Rossi had already managed to drive in less than 1:24,000.

When the half of the session had past, Hunter-Reay suffered a spin while making a good lap. By another way, Rossi headed the table of laptimes.

Finally, the first practice of the weekend came to its end with Rahal as leader with a 1:23.2603. Behind him, Rossi finished in second place with Chilton, Dixon and Hinchcliffe closing the Top5.
