Leclerc set the pace from the very beginning, being more than 2 seconds faster than Ghiotto only on his first attempt. Rowland climbes up to P2, but 1 second behind the leader. Latifi was the first one to get close to the Monegasque, but he was 3 tenths behind.

It took 12 minutes for someone to take Leclerc out of P1, and it was his Prema teammate Fuoco for 2 tenths. Latifi improved this time by half a second, but Leclerc went back to P1 with 9 tenths of advantage. Rowland went up to P2 ahead of Latifi, Malja, Fuoco, De Vries, Ghiotto, Merhi, Markelov and Sette Câmara.

Latifi set the second fastest time right before Sette Câmara spun, causing a red flag. The session was restarted with 3:43 minutes left. Rowland was improving his time in the first sector, but the rain had intensified in the second one and he lost control of his Dams. Albon was the only one capable of improving and he went up to P10.
