Romanian racer Petru Florescu is joining Team Motopark for the remainder of the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship season.

The 18-year-old will compete in the three final race events with the Oschersleben-based outfit. He mainly wants to sink his teeth into European Formula 3 racing to get prepared for the 2018 season.

“I am really looking forward to welcoming Petru at Team Motopark”, said team principal Timo Rumpfkeil.

“Racing with us is the ideal preparation for the 2018 season. Our goal is to teach him as much as possible during the three upcoming race events to give him an advantage for the next season.”

“Petru did one of his first tests ever in a Formula car with us back in winter 2013 in Valencia. Ever since we kept in contact and I’m very happy that he gives us the trust to support him in one of the most important steps in his career.”

Petru Florescu: “Joining Team Motopark on my FIA F3 debut is very exciting! I knew many of the people in the team and so I felt immediately at home.

“Team Motopark are not only very quick in the championship, but have also impressed me with their rigorous processes and clear structure. They will no doubt be able to help me understand the FIA F3 car, tyres and championship and even though it won’t be an easy endeavour as the level in the championship is really high, they will make me push myself during these three races.

“On top of everything all the tracks are also new to me, so it will be a steep learning curve but I welcome the chance to get ready for next year!”

Petru Florescu, who wants to make use of Team Motopark’s know-how and wide experience in Formula racing, began his single-seater career in the then UK Formula 4 category in 2015 and 2016, scoring five wins and finishing sixth in his second season. In 2017 he competes in the Euroformula Open.

Petru made his karting debut in 2009, aged 10. He enjoyed a very successful karting career, competing in various world-level events and finishing as runner-up in the 2013 WSK Final Cup in the KF Junior category.

At Team Motopark Petru Florescu will have the opportunity to race alongside the well-experienced drivers Joel Eriksson and David Beckmann and the rookie drivers Keyvan Andres Soori and Marino Sato.
