Ducati’s Jorge Lorenzo has undergone a successful surgery on his wrist on Tuesday as he eyes a return to MotoGP in Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang.

Lorenzo flew from Japan to Barcelona following the Japanese Grand Prix weekend and was attended by regular MotoGP surgeon Dr. Xavier Mir on Tuesday at the Dexeus Clinic. He surgery to repair the ligament on his left wrist was successful.

The Spaniard is already back home in Lugano to rehabilitate in order to be ready for the Malaysian GP at Sepang circuit during the November 2-4 weekend. He was already confirmed to be missing this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island.

The statement read: “Lorenzo undergone an operation to treat a rupture on the dorsal side of his left scapholunate ligament. Keyhole surgery was undertaken on his wrist and he was treated with a heat suture and had platelet-rich plasma placed on the rupture.”

Lorenzo injured his ankle during the Aragon Grand Prix in a Lap 1 crash. He rode through pain the the free practice sessions in Thailand Grand Prix at Buriram but a high-side in FP2 injured his wrist which forced him to pull out from the weekend.

He traveled to Twin Ring Motegi for the Japanese GP but after only the installation lap, he decided to skip from the weekend as well and instead of trying again for Australia, he made the decision to get back home for a surgery.

Ducati already confirmed Angel Nieto’s Alvaro Bautista as his replacement for this weekend race with Australia’s Mike Jones to ride alongside Karel Abraham for his career’s third MotoGP race after riding for Avintia Racing in Japan and Australia in 2016.
