Lewis Hamilton has set the fastest time in practice session 1 at Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, finishing ahead of his team mate Valtteri Bottas. Kimi Räikkönen finished third.
Today Sergey Sirotkin had the chance to drive in the Renault Sport of Jolyon Palmer in the practice. But the Russian suffered a gearbox problems. He wasn’t the only one who struggle today, Fernando Alonso (McLaren) abandoned the session at turn 3. Vettel (Ferrari) also had gearbox problems, while Kevin Magnussen, running with the new brakes of the Haas went off at turn 3.
At the end Mercedes set a one-two with Hamilton leading ahead of Bottas. Third was Räikkönen ahead of Vettel, then the Red Bull’s of Verstappen and Ricciardo, then the Haas of Magnussen and Grosjean, and completing the top10, Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) and local hero Carlos Sainz.
