Lewis Hamilton gets the fourth win of the season and his fourth victory in the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. Mercedes gets another double with Nico Rosberg finishing in second place. Valtteri Bottas finished on the podium for the first time this year.

The Canadian Grand Prix is one of the most classic in the calendar, a circuit where Lewis Hamilton is the active driver who had more victories, a total of 3. The British today started from the pole accompanied by Nico Rosberg. Behind them hazardous Finns, Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas. Back on the grid came Vettel in eighteenth, Verstappen nineteenth and twentieth Button, all aiming higher.
Most drivers decided to start the race on the supersoft tyres, while Massa, Merhi, Stevens, Verstappen and Button chose the soft.

At the start, Hamilton closed the door to Rosberg, who was followed by all the drivers with few changes of positions. Vettel was up to the sixteenth place, while Button was making his drive throught because of the engine change yesterday.

Vettel was still going up and in the second lap he got rid of Felipe Nasr (Sauber) and Carlos Sainz in the next lap. The next driver was Fernando Alonso who had a complicated start. The German hovertook then Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Massa, fighting for eleventh place.
Vettel stopped immediately in boxes to put a set of new soft tyres to get away with a clear track. German quickly got rid of Button and Manor drivers starting dialing the fastest laps of the race, rolling in a similar pace than Lewis Hamilton. The only problem for the German was again Fernando Alonso who was easily overtaken for the four times world champion.
Meanwhile, Felipe Massa was starring in his comeback race after beating Ricciardo, Perez and Kvyat, ranking seventh on lap 20.

Vettel was still the star of the race too. The German overtook ruthlessly the two Toro Rosso and Ericsson, but suffering a little bit with Maldonado due to the Lotus had new tyes.

Drivers were going to boxes for the first time, during which McLaren engineers called for Alonso to save gasoline, and he refused, saying that what he wanted to do was compete.
Raikkonen was the first of the leaders to box on lap 26, but the Finn spun with the new tyres as they were still cold. This was perfect for Mercedes to extend the lead before Hamilton entered in boxes for the first time on lap twenty-ninth. Then it was Rosberg who had previously suffered an off-track, but the German trimmed distances with the champion, as this had suffered a stuck brake.

Massa was the only one who had not stopped in boxes on lap 33, with Verstappen. However, at that time Hamilton was leading halfway through the race, followed by Rosberg which stood at 1 seconds behind the Briton, Bottas was running third with Raikkonen fourth, Massa fifth, followed by Grosjean, Vettel, Maldonado, Hulkenberg and Kvyat.
Vettel made the second stop on lap 35, when Massa who still had not made the first was attacked by Maldonado in the fight for sixth place. The Venezuelan had a difficult task as Massa was the driver with the most top speed of the race. Williams driver stopped on lap 37 and left behind Sebastian Vettel setting the fastest lap of the race with a 1:17,481. His teammate, got the supersoft tyres five laps later to fight for the podium.

The germanic duel between Hulkenberg and Vettel for seventh place, ended bad. After many attempts, the Ferrari tried to overtake on the chicane in the end of the straight, but Vettel did not have enough room to make the turn, what motivated him to skip the chicane. On the other hand, Hulkenberg, lost control of the car and fell to ninth and Massa took advantage of this golden opportunity to advance positions.
Fernando Alonso left the race while Grosjean received a penalty for a touch with Stevens.

The situation in the race with 15 laps to finish was: Hamilton first followed by Rosberg, Bottas, Raikkonen, Maldonado, Vettel, Massa, Hulkenberg, Kvyat and Perez.
Vettel kept overtaking fiercely for the second time this race, he got rid of Maldonado, placed fifth. Meanwhile, the 2011 winner at this track, Jenson Button, left the race. Also Roberto Merhi Castellon left the race.

Fourth victory for Hamilton in the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, thirty seven victories for the British who continues to make history and extends his lead in the championship towards Rosberg to 17 points.

Meritorious comebacks from Vettel and Massa that ended up in fifth and sixth place. Also noteworthy is the seventh of Pastor Maldonado, ending his second race this year, and achieving the first points.
