Lewis Hamilton was fastest in the first two free sessions of the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix which is held at the Shanghai circuit.

FP1

Lewis Hamilton was fastest in the first practice session. The Mercedes have dominated the session ahead of Ferrari, the only ones who can be close to the German mark.

Behind the Williams and Red Bull, there seems to be an improvement by the Austrian brand that now seems to be faster than its sister team Toro Rosso.

The McLaren have also shown signs of improvement, Jenson Button finished in thirteenth place, and Fernando Alonso in seventeenth, ahead of Force India, which does not seem to find a good setup on the car.

Jolyon Palmer (Lotus) has debuted at a formal session in the place of Romain Grosjean.

FP2

In the second session Hamilton has also been the fastest, followed by Raikkonen and Ricciardo who has done time with medium tyres.

Despite the third place from Red Bull, the energy drink team has continued with many problems and especially with brake problems that were evident when the Kvyat’s car caught fire causing him to get off track.

As for Williams, Felipe Massa suffered an off-track at high speed in turn 14. The Mercedes have shown a better pace, although Ferrari is still behind them.

The next practice session will be tomorrow at 6 am and classification at 9 am (Central European Time).
