Prema Powerteam are once more on pole following Lance Stroll’s strong performance this morning, this time in the form of Maximilian Günther, whose move to the team has brought him much success after making the switch for Hockenheim last year. The young German clocked a time a mere hundredth quicker than Hitech GP star George Russell, with just over a tenth between Günther and Cassidy.

 

 Five minutes into the session Piquet had already recorded a lap time over seven tenths quicker than Stroll’s pole time earlier in the day, his Van Amersfoort Racing teammates joining him at the sharp end of the field. Soon though others began to join the scrap, Russell and Barnicoat taking their turns to hold provisional pole as well as Raoul Hyman.

Harrison Newey was the first to set a sub 1:22 time, and though it was good enough to see him jump to the top Newey was unable to improve, leaving him just out of the top 10 for Race 2. Prema’s Ralf Aron was the fastest rookie, who was just under three tenths slower than Günther, with Joel Eriksson qualifying in the top 10 for the second time in this his first FIA F3 Europe race weekend.

The first race of the 2016 championship starts at 10:45 CEST tomorrow morning. Though the field has been cut down, the talent certainly hasn’t. Make sure you’re watching for the season to kick off in typical F3 style; nail-bitingly close fought true racing!
