UNI-Virtuosi’s 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship line-up is complete with the signing of Luca Ghiotto.

The new British outfit – which replaces Russian Time – on the F2 grid from the 2019 season onward has named Ghiotto as its second driver after announcing Guanyu Zhou earlier in the week to complete its driver line-up for the upcoming season.

The Italian will start his fourth year in the F2 series having made his debut in 2015 in GP2 with Trident. He finished eighth that year and moved to Russian Time in 2017 and raced for Campos in 2018 – ending up fourth and eighth respectively.

He has had two wins and 13 podium finishes so far taking GP2 and F2 collectively. “I am obviously very excited to be joining UNI-Virtuosi Racing,” said Ghiotto. “I am re-joining this group of hard-working people just 12 months after our last race together in 2017.

“Each one in the Team have the highest culture of motorsport and a winning pedigree, which you can feel in every single act and their approach to motor racing. Obviously, our common target is to do much better than in 2017, when we ended fourth in the Drivers’ Championship.

“I would like to thank Paul, Declan, Andy and all the team for this opportunity. I’m sure it is going to be an intense and successful season for us together.” Effectively, he returns to the team which is same as Russian Time.

Team boss Andy Roche added: “Luca tested in Abu Dhabi with us last week and immediately felt comfortable as did the team. It was like he had never been away! He will be an invaluable asset to the team for 2019 and, alongside Guanyu Zhou, we have a formidable pairing for the upcoming season.”
