The Russian driver will try to continue his motorsport career in the World Endurance Championship and the 24 hours of Le Mans with SMP after not being racing for a year.

Petrov finished his Formula 1 career in the end of 2012, with a difficult season with Caterham. After that, he tried to race with touring cars in the DTM, but a bad 2014 season with Mercedes, without scoring any points, finished with his options to continue

In 2015 Vitaly stayed at home, without racing, and now in 2016 he wants to restart his motorsport career again, racing in the WEC with SMP in LMP2 class. This won’t be the first time that Petrov race in LMP2, because he drove Courage LC75-AER back in 2007, but unluckily, he didn’t finish the race.

His teammates in the #28 BR01 will be Victor Shaytar and Kirill Ladygin.
