Brazilian Pietro Fittipaldi (Lotus) put together a stunning flying lap to top qualifying 2 at Jerez, in the fourth round of the 2017 World Series Formula V8 3.5. After enjoying a busy week in Andalusia for a promotional tour, Fittipaldi took it to the track in perfect fashion to secure his sixth pole out of eight qualifying sessions held so far in 2017. Setting a blistering lap time of 1:26.515, he ended up more than four tenths of a second clear of his closest contender, Egor Orudzhev (SMP Racing by AVF). The Russian, who sat on pole for the opening race of the weekend, highlighted his great moment of form with another front row start.

The morning session at Jerez featured once again overcast skies with cool temperatures although sunny conditions are expected for race 2. Completing the top-5 were Matevos Isaakyan (SMP Racing by AVF), Damiano Fioravanti (RP Motorsport) who also led the rookie ranking, and Alfonso Celis Jr. (Fortec Motorsports). Rene Binder (Lotus) repeated yesterday’s sixth place while race 1 winner Roy Nissany (RP Motorsport) had to settle with seventh.

At the end of the first series of runs, it was Orudzhev to lead the way in front of Isaakyan, Celis Jr., Diego Menchaca (Fortec Motorsports), Nissany and Fioravanti. Race 2 will start at 13:35.
