In the coming season, the FIA European Formula 3 European Championship will take on the new Formula European Masters name from 2019 onward.

The new junior race series will succeed the European F3 series in the DTM support programme and will continue to operate under long-time promoter Formel 3 Vermarktungs. The FIA will run the new Formula 3 Championship under Formula 1’s support.

Formula European Masters will retain the F3 cars and engines used until now in the series but will change name as it does not conform with the new F3 regulations of the FIA. The junior series remains part of the DTM programme along with the new W Series.

Formel 3 Vermarktungs GmbH CEO, Walter Mertes, explained the reasons that have caused the rebrand after five years under FIA and Formula 3 gaining since 2013. “The Formula 3 single-seaters are extremely sophisticated, well-engineered and safe,” said Mertes.

“Both the technical and sporting regulations have proven their worth for years. Our premium series on the highly professional DTM platform offers the young drivers’ perfect conditions and the chance of demonstrating their skills in front of the eyes of those responsible at top-class brands such as Aston Martin, Audi and BMW.

“In addition, the Formula European Masters also benefits nationally and internationally from the professional marketing and top-class TV partners,” added the German businessman.
