Motopark’s Dan Ticktum and HitechGP’s Enaam Ahmed took pole for Race 2 and Race 3 respectively at Hungaroring in Round 2 of the 2018 FIA European Formula 3 Championship on Saturday.
Following his pole and win in Race 1, Red Bull junior Ticktum was once again in contention for pole but faced a stiff challenge from his rivals especially Ahmed who beat his earlier time to take provisional pole.
However, the British driver snatched the top spot right at the end of the session with a 1m34.937s despite not getting any purple sectors, demoting Ahmed to second by just the 0.023s difference.
Ahmed though, took pole for Sunday’s Race 3 with the time of 1m34.967s with Ticktum in second with his second best time of 1m34.999s. Meanwhile, Prema’s Guanyu Zhou qualified third for Race 2 (1m34.993s) and was fifth for Race 3 (1m35.288s).
Teammate Marcus Armstrong finished fourth for Race 2 (1m35.048s) and was third for Race 3 (1m35.234s), with HitechGP’s Alex Palou in fifth (1m35.122s) for the former and seventh (1m35.422s) in the latter.
Carlin’s lead driver Jehan Daruvala finished sixth for Race 2 (1m35.218s) and fourth for Race 3 (1m35.249s) as the British outfit found the cure for the issues they faced on Friday, with Prema’s Robert Shwartzman in seventh (1m35.270s) and sixth (1m35.329s) respectively.
Hitech GP’s Ben Hingeley (1m35.327s) finished eighth in Race 2, followed by Carlin’s Ferdinand Habsburg (1m35.333s) and Motopark’s Fabio Scherer (1m35.341s), while Habsburg (1m35.603s) rounded Top 10 for Race 3 behind Motopark’s Juri Vips (1m35.445s) and Prema’s Mick Schumacher (1m35.542s).
