Team Penske driver Helio Castroneves has achieved the pole in Iowa oval with an average of 183.4 miles per hour. Tony Kanaan was second and third the championship leader, Juan Pablo Montoya.

Ryan Hunter-Reay was first put quickly but soon after, it was the turn of Will Power, who put his Penske in the first provisional position.

It was the turn of Sebastien Bourdais, who lost control of his car on his first lap and ended up hitting the back of the wall, finishing hence its classification.

His compatriot Simon Pagenaud, left soon after and was placed first provisionally beating his teammate Will Power. But Tony Kanaan was the next to go, and snatched the first position to Pagenaud.

After a few tips “TK” Dixon came to track, finishing two laps in second provisional position. But Penske quickly snatched the provisional double to Chip Ganassi’s Helio Castroneves. Soon after, the Penske missing, the championship leader, Juan Pablo Montoya, got between the two Ganassi obtaining provisional third position.

The next to go was Newgarden, who finished seventh, achieving a top 7 of Chevrolet, which continues its dominance in the Indy Car. Another interesting fact is that Castroneves has achieved his first pole this year.
