In Pau the Tech 1 Racing driver Anthoine Hubert is once more the top dog. After having set the pole position in yesterday’s qualify, he scored his second win in Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS.

The French proved all his skills on the street circuit of Pau during the round of the International Series promoted by Fast Lane Promotion. Hubert ruled from flag to flag. With him on podium the determined Matevos Isaakyan (JD Motorsport), who managed to recover from P4 to P2, and the other Tech 1 Racing driver Simon Gachet.

A close fight involved also the drivers behind the leading trio with the Croatian Martin Kodric (Fortec Motorsports) who managed to keep behind the two cars lined up by Koiranen GP for Jake Hughes and Stefan Riener. Seventh overall is the other JD Motorsport driver Thiago Vivacqua, who preceded the Championship leader Jack Aitken (Koiranen GP), and Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsports), with the latter capable of recovering five places after the penalty awarded him in qualify for not respecting the waived flags. Last place in the top ten is for the Arta Engineering French driver Matthieu Vaxiviere, back in ALPS for this weekend.

Shame for the Russian Vasily Romanov (Cram Motorsport) got stuck in the formation lap for the failure of the gearbox. He was in P3 on the grid.

THE REPORT. In the formation lap the car #21 of Romanov is pushed back in the garages. Hubert has no problems in defending his lead while Isaakyan slips by Gachet and starts chasing the leader. A mistake by Denis Bulatov costs the entry of the Safety Car which leads the pack for the following five minutes. At lap 7 Barnicoat makes his move on Vaxiviere taking P9. The last stages of the race witness two more retirements with both Matteo Ferrer and Bruno Baptista out of the context.

“I’m very happy for Race 1 – declared Anthoine Hubert racing in Pau as wild card – Race wasn’t easy, I had to concentrate ad do my best to defend my leadership once the Safety Car rejoined the pit lane. I would like to thank the brilliant job carried out by Tech 1 Racing, I do really find myself at ease with them”.

Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS will be back on track this afternoon at 16.55 per the second official qualifying session.
